Maryland Department of Corrections - Career Opportunities and New Security Procedures
If you’re looking for a new career, we have an idea for you.
Secretary Stephen Moyer with the Maryland Department of Safety and Correctional Services recently stopped by the studio to tell us about career opportunities and their new security procedures.
Candidates for the position of corrections officer should be physically and mentally strong, someone who is looking for a career, and someone who is a team player. Secretary Moyer says that being in corrections is like being on a sports team in that everyone relies on each other to succeed.
Being in corrections also provides a variety of different career options besides the traditional guarding of inmates such as maintenance, a dietary officer, and records management.
Secretary Moyer says they are offering a $5,000.00 bonus incentive if you come and work for them. After a six-week training academy, they are given a $2,000.00 bonus and after their first year, they will receive a $3,000.00 bonus. Call the recruitment hotline if you are interested in a career as a correctional officer, 410-585-3060.
Secretary Moyer also talks about new security procedures that they put in place at their 23 facilities across the state. He says it truly makes the employees feel safer around the inmates.
