Danny Webster – Seventh of Ten 2017 Jefferson Awards Winners
“You are a WBOC Jefferson Award winner,” WBOC’s Maxine Bentzel told Danny, who asked, “Really?”
While Danny was surprised about his win, the people who know him weren’t. Danny has dedicated his service to the fire company and the people of his community for 42 years.
“I do what I can here,” he said. “I like doing for people all the time and this is my home, really. It’s what I do.”
Deal Island-Chance VFC President Charles Jacobson says Danny is the heart and soul of the company: the kind of person every volunteer fire department needs.
“The men and women that volunteer to do this do an awful lot for this community, but Danny always responds. He does a little extra in everything he does,” Jacobson said.
And that little extra extends to anyone in need.
Danny’s friend, David Webster said of him, “Whenever, whatever, whoever and those three criteria means you don’t have to have be his friend, you don’t have to be somebody who he likes, you don’t have to be somebody who is deserving for him to be willing to step out of his comfort zone and to go.”
As the general manager of a seafood restaurant, Danny also serves on several watermen committees and has lobbied for bills on behalf of watermen in Annapolis.
“Everybody talks about Deal Island, how it is but this is the best place in the world to live,” Danny said. “It really is and that’s why I do it. I love the people. I love this place.”
That’s why Danny Webster is a WBOC Jefferson Awards winner.
