Today on DelmarvaLife:
Here on Delmarva, there are many farmers. This time of year, farmers are harvesting their crops which means many tractors and combines are back on the roads. Nationwide Insurance Agent based in Princess Anne, and also a master certified farm specialist, Dave Willoughby, is talking about safety for the farming community and safety for you as well today at 5 pm.
The Amish Country Bike Tour is Saturday, Sept. 9, in Dover, Del. Marketing and Communications Manager for Kent County Tourism, Danielle Jonigan, tells us all about the upcoming rain-or-shine event. The event starts at 7 am and goes until 5 pm and there are 15, 25, 50, 62, and 100 mile routes.
Speaking of biking, Dr. John Bare, a board member with Bike Delaware, tells us how to prepare for a long-distance bike ride and gives us some bike safety measures.
For many senior citizens living right here on Delmarva, going grocery shopping and preparing meals is a difficult task. That’s where Meals on Wheels can help. Marketing Coordinator with Meals on Wheels, Jennifer Halliday, and Sip and Savor Committee Member, Katie Becker, join us on the couches to explain how Meals on Wheels helps seniors in the community. The program provides and delivers meals to nearly 4,000 homebound seniors. Programs like this would not be possible without help from the community. The Sip and Savor event benefiting Meals on Wheels is Saturday, Sept. 9 from 6 pm-9 pm at Wild Quail Country Club in Dover, Del. WBOC is a proud sponsor of this event.
We’re making lobster corn dogs with Jacob Ringgold from Brick Works Brewing and Eats. Lobster corn dogs will be a dish you can snack on for yourself at the Sip and Savor event this coming weekend.
Flooding from Hurricane Harvey has displaced tens of thousands of people in the Houston and surrounding area. The widespread devastation caused by Harvey has prompted Sherwood Automotive’s Rising Tide program to ask you to help us provide financial donations for the youngest victims of this historic storm. To make this happen, Sherwood Automotive has teamed up with WBOC’s Bless Our Children campaign. Every cent you donate to the Bless Our Children program through September will go directly to charities helping children affected by this disaster. To donate, go here.
