What’s Happening Today – Sept. 23, 2016
Today on DelmarvaLife:
If you don’t have plans for the weekend, visit a museum! Many museums are free for the Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day Live on Sat., Sept. 24. You can get free admission for two people by going here. This is a nationwide event, but here on Delmarva. you can get free admission to the Treasures of the Sea Exhibit at Delaware Technical Community College in Georgetown, the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art in Salisbury, the Academy Art Museum in Easton, and the Calvin B. Taylor House Museum in Snow Hill. To find what other museums are participating, go here.
Saturday is also National Seat Check Saturday. It’s a day for parents and caregivers to make sure their car seats and booster seats are properly installed. The Wicomico Health Department and Maryland KISS (Kids in Safety Seats) will hold an event from 10 am-1 pm at North Walmart in Salisbury. A certified child passenger safety technician will check your seat and provide hands-on instruction on installing car and booster seats.
Last week, we talked to you about the declining bee population on Delmarva. Unfortunately, just like the bee, the monarch butterfly population is also on the decline. Butterfly Enthusiast, Dick Arnold, tells us how the butterfly benefits us. Dick raises butterflies and he tells us about how he tags them, and how we can protect the population.
In today’s Pet Connect, we feature dogs and cats from Baywater Animal Rescue, Caroline County Humane Society, and Delaware SPCA in Georgetown. Check out the animals up for adoption here.
The Indian Summer Toy and Train Show is Sat., Sept. 24 from 9 am-3 pm at the Roxana Firehouse. Admission is $5. Bill Ziegler from the Delaware Seaside Railroad Club joins us to give us all the details and information on this event that the whole family can enjoy.
We introduce Maryland native, BriaMarie to the DelmarvaLife stage! Her music has been featured on VH1 and MTV – just to name a few. She sings “#L2LU” and “Rather Be.” Check out BriaMarie on Facebook here to see all her latest music videos and other updates.
Mid-September means it’s premiere season for some of television’s hottest shows. Today, we open the “Fox Box.” The box has different slots that you can open and inside is something fun to celebrate your favorite shows. Each day this week, an audience member will be the lucky recipient of what’s inside that day’s slot. What’s in Friday’s slot of the Fox Box? Tune in at 5 pm to find out!
