It was a story that captivated Delmarva – so much so that, to this day, when somebody speaks of Kirk Bloodsworth, many people remember what went down. It was 1985. Bloodsworth was convicted of the rape and murder of nine-year-old Dawn Hamilton in Rosedale. Bloodsworth was to be put to death for the crime he maintained he did not commit. Just about nine years later, DNA evidence backed that claim, and Kirk Bloodsworth was released from prison, a free man. He became the first American on death row to be exonerated by DNA evidence. It’s a fascinating story, and one that author Tim Junkin details in his book Bloodsworth: The True Story of the First Death Row Inmate Exonerated by DNA. We’ll sit down with Tim, to hear what went into writing this book.
We’re taking what can often be considered a confusing conversation, and making it crystal clear. Open enrollment for Medicare takes place October 15 – December 7. We’re talking Medicare D today, and hearing why many people on Delmarva can expect quite a change come next year. Pharmacist David Leach, with Apple Discount Drugs, tells us how people can get help with any and all questions they might have, when it comes to Medicare.
The cold weather and freezing nights are coming. That means the worry will soon set in, over whether or not the plumbing in your home will make it through unscathed. We sit down with Master Plumber and the owner of Chesapeake Plumbing and Heating, Travis Martin. He’ll explain how you can get your plumbing winter ready. The company is also offering special discounts for WBOC viewers:

We sit down with two members of Sussex Technical High School‘s Army JROTC program. Hear how, while balancing their school work, the group still makes it their mission to better the lives of people on Delmarva. In fact, the JROTC team is holding a walk on October 16th to benefit CHEER in Sussex County. The event kicks off at 10 a.m. on the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk. If you’d like to support Sussex Tech’s Army JROTC, click here. Please use one of the following cadet’s names: Becky Trader or Rebecca Lenhart.
“Boundless A Musical Journey” is a production made up of some incredible talent, and it’s a show that celebrates the abilities of many of our friends and neighbors. The production features 30 Delawareans who have disabilities, but as you’ll see, they don’t let that get in the way of their success. We’ll sit down with the executive director of the Governor’s Advisory Council for Exceptional Citizens, to hear more about the production.
DelmarvaLife’s Sydney Whitfield gets the honor of playing soccer with Alvenso Honore. He’s the starting goalkeeper for the USA’s Amputee Soccer World Cup team. We’ll hear his story, including how he got involved in soccer. He’ll even show us a few moves on the soccer field!
