What’s Happening Today – November 16, 2018
Today on DelmarvaLife:
Plenty of people plan to dig into a feast on Thanksgiving. Imagine burning off the calories before you sit down at the dinner table. The 10th annual Turkey Trek 5k takes place Thanksgiving morning at Pemberton Park in Salisbury. The course takes participants on Pemberton Park’s trails through forest, meadows and wetlands. You can enjoy refreshments and pie after crossing the finish line. The race begins at 9 a.m., but registration takes place from 7:30 a.m. – 8:00 a.m. You may also register online, here.
It wouldn’t be the holiday season without a Winter Wonderland in Ocean City. Winterfest of Lights is underway! More than one million twinkling bulbs spanning over 58 acres with one goal – to get you into the holiday spirit. Winterfest of Lights runs through December 31st. It’s open Sundays through Thursdays from 5:30 a.m. – 9:30 p.m. If you want to visit on the weekend, Winterfest is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. DelmarvaLife’s Sydney Whitfield spends some time with Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan to hear about all the fun visitors can expect this year.
For the first time in 14 years, the state of Maryland has released a new Bay Plate. We sit down with the executive director of the Chesapeake Bay Trust, Jana Davis, and the president of TM Design, Tina Cardosi, to hear more about what went into the design and production process of the plate. We’ll also learn more about the Plate Perks Program.
Local businesses can have a significant impact on the community, and it all begins with the service. Castrol Premium Lube Express owners Jean and Gary Marsiglia say they pride themselves in treating their customers like family, by offering car maintenance services to keep your care running through the season. DelamarvaLife’s Sydney Whitfield shows us how.
There’s nothing like eating a meal that you love, with the people you love even more. That is what Jimmy’s Grille Catering is providing for the upcoming holiday season. DelmarvaLife’s Sydney Whitfield got a glimpse of what you can expect to be on the menu. For more information, or if you would like to schedule catering services, call Chase Cline at 302-337-8868 or email him: EAT@JimmysGrille.org.
For those who have experienced loss, this time of year can be a bit rough. The group performing on the Mid South Audio Stage today understands that, and is trying provide a glimmer of hope – particularly to those who’ve been impacted by the opioid epidemic. They’re hosting “Brian’s Christmas Songbook Concert” on December 15th. The event takes place at 4:00 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center in Ocean City. It’ll serve as a way to discourage young people from using drugs, and participants will share the story of Brian Christ, who lost his life to a heroin overdose on December 15, 2004. It’ll be much more than music, though. In fact, Santa Claus and his elf are scheduled to be there. Don’t miss it!
