What’s Happening Today – November 15, 2018
Today on DelmarvaLife:
For those who need shelter during the cold winter months, “Code Purple” will soon be in place. Starting November 25th, “on call” shelters will open. The organization that provides emergency nighttime shelters for the homeless is still waiting on supplies, and is in need of donations. Code Purple is also looking for volunteers to help man the shelters. If you are part of an organization that wants to help, the director of Code Purple will come and speak to your organization about how Code Purple changes lives. For more information, email Amanda Mitchell at codepurplesussexcounty@gmail.com, or call 302-632-8180.
The 2018 Rehoboth Beach Gingerbread Contest takes place next weekend. Amateur and professional bakers will compete with their original gingerbread constructions. It’s free and open to the public to raise money for Compassionate Outreach, through the Epworth United Methodist Church of Rehoboth Beach. There will also be a Quilt Show & Sale, and an opportunity to have breakfast with Santa.
“A Night to Shine” sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation, is an incredible event designed to give people with special needs a complete prom experience. The event takes place February 8, 2019, at Heritage Shores in Bridgeville. It’ll be easy to see why this experience will be one that’s talked about for years down the road.
The only thing more tragic than a death is a death that could have been prevented. That’s the idea behind the stop the bleed training that was held at Mardela Middle and High School. Peninsula Regional Medical Center staff instructed students, teachers and staff members on how to quickly stop blood loss in the case of a traumatic emergency. Zoey Dipasqua, president and founder of the Mardela Middle and High School Red Cross Club, Chris Dipasqua from the PRMC Nursing Services Supervisor’s Office and Mardela Principal, Liza Hastings, are in the studio to tell us more about this program, and how it impacts community members.
Have you ever come across a really neat shop and you find yourself immersed in every unique item that they offer? We’re pretty sure that’ll happen when you stop by Stoneworks Lapidary in Rehoboth Beach. 102.5 WBOC‘s Corey Phoebus found out for himself, and even made a new friend – Sue the T-Rex!
