What’s Happening Today – Nov. 27, 2017
Today on DelmarvaLife:
We join the entire “Team Surfgimp” community in sending our condolences to the family and friends of Jay Liesener. Jay passed away early this morning. A trampoline accident in 1989 left Jay paralyzed, but that didn’t stop him from getting back into the water and doing what he loved – surfing. In fact, Jay and his friends and family formed “Team Surfgimp.” The team would help Jay in the water, and look after him every step of the way as rode the waves. Jay would always say the water is where he felt no pain. He and Team Surfgimp recently returned from a surfing trip of a lifetime in California. He beamed with joy when he came on the show to tell us about that experience. Jay Liesener – an inspiration to many, who will be sorely missed.
It’s Cyber Monday, but you need to be careful. Cyber crooks will be working overtime to get their hands on your sensitive personal information. The Department of Homeland Security offers useful and practical information at StopThinkConnect.org. Another good resource is the National Cyber Security Alliance at StaySafeOnline.org. Also, If you are a victim of cyber crime, or get suspicious phishing emails, report them to the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center at IC3.gov. The site posts alerts on data breaches and emerging internet crime schemes.
As if your four-legged friend hasn’t already captured your heart, just wait ’til you see the incredible talent of Sara England – ready and willing to showcase your best bud through her unique art. Hear what led Sara to open “The Ruff Life,” and why it’s not really so “rough” after all.
We just made it through Thanksgiving. Now, it’s time to focus on the December holidays. Buying floral arrangements for loved ones is certainly not a new idea, but it’s one that just never goes out of style. And, if you want to amp it up a bit, try making the arrangement yourself. Lisa stops by Windsor’s Flowers in Rehoboth Beach to learn just how easy it is.
What’s on your Christmas list? For many people on Delmarva, that answer is simple: the home of their dreams. Despite what you might think, that’s not out of reach, but before you even start looking, the first step is landing a home loan. Don’t be mistaken – that process can be smooth sailing. Our friends from Acopia Home Loans stop by to explain.
Dinner can be stress-free, with one stop at The Big Easy on 60 in Ocean City. DelmarvaLife’s Sydney Whitfield stops by to sample one of the tasty possibilities – a caramel apple turnover.
