What’s Happening Today – May 25, 2017
Today on DelmarvaLife:
As we age, our bones start losing the minerals that make them strong. Dr. David Roe, orthopedic surgeon with Peninsula Regional Medical Center, joins us in the studio today to talk about osteoporosis. He tells us who is most at risk and preventable measures we can take to minimize the risk of osteoporosis.
When communities come together, change happens right before your eyes. Chief Operating Officer for “Do More 24,” Jerry Hunter, tells us all about the campaign that is bringing communities together. All the work amounts to “Give Day,” which is all powered by the United Way.
We’re so lucky here on Delmarva because we are surrounded by miles of beautiful beaches. The beach truly has something for everyone to enjoy. Businesses along the beach are taking note of how families are looking for even more to do when they hit the sand. Bethany Beach Ocean Suites took note of that and they are offering so much more than just a typical hotel experience for their guests. General Manager, Marcio Azevedo, tells Lisa all about the new activities for kids and adults to enjoy that Ocean Suites offers.
There’s an upcoming event to honor the men and women who serve us on a daily basis. President and CEO of the Rehoboth and Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce, Carol Everhart, tells us all about the upcoming “Beach Goes Blue… And Red and White Too” event. Carol tells us that there will be many activities for everyone to enjoy at the event. Such as, military equipment, military bands, kids activities, beach glow and light show, and a Gecko-Go 5K run/walk. WBOC is a proud sponsor of this event. “Beach Goes Blue… And Red and White Too” is June 10 from 9 am-9 pm on Rehoboth Ave. at the bandstand.
Watercolor Artist, Ellen Lawler, joins us in the DelmarvaLife studio to teach Jimmy and Lisa how to paint using watercolors. There is an upcoming event where local artists can show off their talent. The Artisans Fair will be Sat., May 27, at Lord Baltimore Elementary School from 9 am-3 pm.
We have royalty in the studio today! The 2017 Mar-Del Watermelon Queen, Connor Vincent, joins us in the DelmarvaLife kitchen. We learn more about the queen, along with her watermelon seed spitting technique, and we make watermelon salsa and watermelon lemonade.
