What’s Happening Today – May 15, 2019
Today on DelmarvaLife –
It was late last year when we visited Mardela Middle & High School for a training session on how to “Stop the Bleed” in the event of a traumatic injury. While nobody wants to find themselves in such a situation, learning how to “Stop the Bleed” could save lives. We’ll sit down with Paramedic & Field Training Officer, Andrew Vickers, with Sussex County Emergency Medical Services, to learn more about the program. He’ll also give a demonstration on the Mid South Audio Stage, on how to stop the bleed.
You can also participate in an event that does a lot to better the lives of those who are battling breast cancer. It’s all possible by participating in the annual DE-feet Breast Cancer 5K Run Walk & 1 Mile Fun Walk. Proceeds from the event benefit the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, which offers many programs and educational resources for those battling breast cancer. Come out to Tanger Outlets in Rehoboth Beach on Sunday, have a great time, and support your fellow neighbors and friends while you’re at it!
We’ve touched on sea glass in the past and how you can come across some unique finds right here on Delmarva. We’ll learn about a festival that celebrates sea glass. It’s the Chesapeake Sea Glass Festival at Chesapeake College in Wye Mills. It takes place this Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Proceeds from the event benefit three humane societies on Delmarva.
We are in the DelmarvaLife Kitchen celebrating the chocolate chip on this National Chocolate Chip Day. Eight-year-old Hudson Lumpkin, of Salisbury, stops by with his signature recipe for chocolate chip cookies.
Right now there is an animal on Delmarva that needs you. Obviously, not everyone can welcome a homeless pet into their home, but you can come to the rescue of our furry friends with food and supplies to stock our local animal shelters. You’ll get that opportunity at today’s WBOC and Safford Automotive Rising Tide event.
“Paw Patrol Live! Race to the Rescue” is coming to the Wicomico Youth and Civic Center in Salisbury on May 28th and 29th, and we want to give your family tickets to see the show. We are giving away a family four-pack of tickets, Monday through Friday of next week. Click here to read the rules and to enter to win.
Do you know someone who has a birthday or wedding anniversary coming up? A great way to celebrate is with a DelmarvaLife Occasion. Submit your occasion here.
Every fall, you can count on the team at Spicer Bros. Construction to launch Delmarva’s Neediest Roof Contest. In December, we help the Spicer Brothers team surprise two deserving people on Delmarva with the gift of a lifetime, a new roof. Now, Spicer Bros. Construction is stepping it up a notch, with the inaugural Veteran Roof Giveaway.
