What’s Happening Today – May 15, 2018
Today on DelmarvaLife:
With the closing of school for Summer fast approaching, many students have already begun checking out and looking forward to the upcoming break. But, with final projects, tests, and papers, it’s important to keep your kids on track as they finish up the year. John Haskell, physical education teacher at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic School, joins us to inform of ways to keep children fit and focused this time of the year and how parents can help.
If you’re looking for some fun this upcoming weekend, why not party like a pirate? Worcester Youth and Family Counseling Services is hosting their 10th annual Pirate Party in support of the many different programs they offer from counseling to youth programs. Brigitte Southworth and Joe Kendall join us to give details on the event as well as WYFCS and the need for the services they provide. Tickets are $49 at the door and allow for food and two drink tickets! So, dress up in your best pirate outfit and sail over to the event. WYFCS’ 10th annual Pirate Party will take place this Friday, May 18th from 6 – 9 PM on the docks at Sunset Grille in West Ocean City. For more information on the event, click here!
Warm weather brings plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. If you’re looking for a place to do just that, look no further. From golf to swimming to a nice meal next to the water, Green Hill Country Club offers it all. DelmarvaLife’s Sydney Whitfield takes a trip to Quantico to visit the club and learn more about it.
Last month, we took a trip to Delmarva Dental Services to learn more about invisalign aligner trays and how they work to straighten your teeth. Today, we meet patients using this treatment to change their smile. With three different concerns, we hear from Dr. Leigh Auchey of DDS to see how the treatment was customized to fit each person’s concerns and how they feel after receiving treatment.
Warmer weather means plants are finally in bloom. If you’re looking to begin planting in preparation for the summer months, garden centers can be overwhelming. With so many different plants, all having different needs, it can be tough to find the right one. But, we’ve got someone who can help. Gardening expert Ginny Rosenkranz with the University of Maryland Extension Office comes in to show us a variety of plants to help you find the one to best fit your home.
