What’s Happening Today – June 27, 2018
Today on DelmarvaLife:
Get your camera and get outside! It’s almost time for the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art, Salisbury University‘s Art in Nature Photo Contest. Participants may compete in the photo competition in either the professional, amateur, or youth divisions, and may enter photographs in any of six categories: birds, plants & animals other than birds, landscape/scenery, black & white, nature macro/micro photography (amateur & youth only), and smart device (amateur & youth only).
Ocean Pines Pools will once again turn into fun training facilities for future lifeguards as the community’s popular Junior Lifeguard Program returns for the summer. The program, designed for ages 7+, will focus on teaching lifeguard skills, basic CPR, First Aid and more. Training sessions begin July 10th. For more information, click here.
Summer days on the beach, evenings spent by the campfire – they can give you so much more than memories that last a lifetime. For example, sunburn that stings to the touch, or mosquito bites that just won’t stop itching! Today, we’re learning about some common summer injuries. Some you can heal at home, while others might require a quick trip for professional treatment. Whatever the case, we’ll hear how the team at Your Doc’s In can help.
Another sure sign of summer is families on Delmarva with their eyes to the sky, watching a spectacular show. That’s what you’ll find at Red White and BOOM in Salisbury. The event takes place on Wednesday, July 4th, at Wicomico County Stadium. The free fireworks show begins around 9:15 p.m. Once again, 102.5 WBOC will play patriotic music during the show. We sit down with Event Co-Chair Ryan Weitzel to learn more about Red White and BOOM, and hear why it’s so much more than a spectacular show in the sky.
A little more than two weeks ago, thousands of athletes converged on Cambridge to participate in the Ironman 70.3 Eagleman. When you think of triathletes, you may think of people who’ve been competing since they could walk, but that’s not always the case. There’s a group on Delmarva that encourages anyone, from beginners to seasoned triathletes and everything in between, to join them on their journey to physical fitness. We’ll learn more today about Cambridge Multi-Sport.
We’re celebrating National Sunglasses Day in style! DelmarvaLife’s Sydney Whitfield stops by Shademakers Eyewear in Rehoboth Beach to see what’s hot this season in sunglasses. We’ll also learn more about some of the innovative styles you’ll find on the market today.
We’re in the Kirby & Holloway Kitchen with Chef Paul Suplee, owner of Boxcar40 in Pittsville. He’s making duck fat-fried seafood cakes on grilled romaine and peaches, caramel nuts, pickled onions and citrus vinaigrette.
We continue our giveaways in the 2018 DelmarvaLife Summer Guide. We announce four winners today. Will you be one of them?
