What’s Happening Today – July 26, 2016
Today on DelmarvaLife:

Jimmy and Lisa with Kerri Hollyday, Kary Goff, and Kati Coe
You don’t have to go to San Diego to get in on all of the fun at Comic-Con International. Delmarva has its very own Comic-Con right in Dover! Kerri Hollyday and Katy Goff with the Dover Public Library, and cosplayer Kati Coe join us to talk about the event coming up on Saturday, August 6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m in and around the Dover Public Library, 35 East Loockerman Plaza. Last year the event had about 7,000 attendees, some in costume, some not. The event began in 2013 just for teens and as a way to promote the Dover Public Library’s graphic novel collection. In years since, it has expanded. They’ve added artists, vendors, fan groups, activities, panels, food trucks, authors, cars, and this year, bubble soccer, live action role playing, and a mobile video game truck. It sounds like it’s going to be a great time and admission is free! Visit their website for more details.

Patty Grimes, executive director of The Freeman Stage, joins Jimmy and Lisa to talk about the venue and summer events
Executive Director of The Freeman Stage at Bayside, Patty Grimes, stops by to tell us about the mission behind the outdoor performing arts venue in Selbyville, and some upcoming shows. The Freeman Stage is a program of the Josh M. Freeman Foundation. Patty tells us it’s all about providing cultural experiences to the public, something Josh Freeman, the former chair of the Carl M. Freeman Foundation, held very close to his heart. After Freeman’s untimely death in December 2006, the Josh M. Freeman Foundation was created in his honor. Now, more than 50-thousand people visit the venue annually, to see acts such as Grace Potter, The Silk Road Ensemble with Yo-Yo Ma, A Comedy of Errors, Gladys Knight and many more.

Lauren Holloway previews the 91st annual Chincoteague Pony Swim
WBOC Multimedia Journalist, Lauren Holloway, stops by the studio to tell us how we can watch the 91st Annual Chincoteague Pony Swim live tomorrow morning. Thanks to team coverage, you can have the best seat on Delmarva. Lauren and the team will stream coverage on Facebook Live from Chopper 16, on the dock, in the water, and in our studio. The Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company says the swim will take place between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Tune in on Facebook Live, or on WBOC Classics.

The event takes place Saturday, August 6, at 8 a.m. Check-in is from 6:45 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. at The Starboard. Registration is $20.00 for prior, and $25 for general.
