What’s Happening Today – July 18, 2019
Today on DelmarvaLife:
As the weather heats up on the Eastern Shore, we speak with Peninsula Regional Medical Center‘s Dr. Qamar Iqbal to learn about some of the red flags to watch out for over the coming days. Dr. Iqbal tells us the difference between heat stroke and heat exhaustion. He’ll also explain why everyone needs to be careful during this heat wave, not just the young and the elderly.
We get a preview of the 94th annual Chincoteague Pony Swim that takes place next week. Public Relations Officer Denise Bowden, with the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company explains how this is more of an experience, than just an event. Of course, you can watch the pony swim live with WBOC. We’ll stream Wednesday morning’s swim on our digital platforms, including the WBOC App and Facebook page.
We’re visiting a shop where “monsters come from” — The Metal Shop in Delmar. It’s a neat concept with a friendly team of motorsports experts. The family behind the shop – the Disharoons- say if they don’t have a part you need, they’ll help you find it. DelmarvaLife’s Katie Zarrilli stops by to learn more about the history of the shop. She’ll also get behind the wheel of the Saigon Shaker!
President and Association Director of Delaware Odyssey of the Mind, Jacquie Blevins, stops by to tell us more about the program. She clears up any misconceptions about Odyssey. Jacquie also has a surprise for Jimmy and Lisa!
The team from Every Fiber Coffee, in Seaford, is in the DelmarvaLife Kitchen today. Chef Matt Jenkins shows us how to make his “Mom’s Mac & Cheese.” A revised version of the recipe is below (the “magic” powder is a secret!)
Mac & Cheese
1 lb. elbow macaroni
sliced cheddar
3 C. shredded cheddar
favorite seasoning
1 C. bread crumbs
1/2 lb. butter
1 C. heavy cream
Cook the elbow macaroni to a little past al dente. Drain, then place a layer of noodles in a 13×9 x 2 1/2 inch baking pan. Cover those noodles with four slices of thin cheddar. Add layer of shredded cheese. Repeat this process two times, adding your favorite seasoning in between the layers. Melt butter and add bread crumbs. Layer on top. Add heavy cream over top of dish. Bake at 375 degrees for 20 – 25 minutes. Enjoy!
