What’s Happening Today – Feb. 12, 2018
Today on DelmarvaLife:
Random Acts of Kindness Week kicked off yesterday. This week marks an annual opportunity to unite through kindness. Hold the door open for someone, help someone carry groceries to their car, pay it forward – anything only to benefit the person you are helping. Our kindness queen, Grace Foxwell Murdock has been on the show talking about Random Acts of Kindness Week. You can let everyone know you are participating by sharing your kindness act on social media and using the hashtag, #RAKWEEK2018.
We talk about how important diet and exercise are for adults, but the same goes for our kids. There are plenty of youth sports programs that keep kids active, but what if they want to do something more – maybe a triathlon. The Richard A. Henson Family YMCA in Salisbury, Md. is offering a training program called The Kids Y-Tri to prepare kids for a triathlon. Lisa recently stopped by the YMCA to learn more.
Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching! Today, we’re talking about the three must-haves to make it a celebration your sweetie will remember for years to come – romance, tradition and wine. Sara Hambury, owner of West-O Bottle Shop and Bar in Ocean City, Md. joins us in the studio to incorporate all three must-haves with Old World Wine.
Speaking multiple languages may seem daunting at times, but there is actually a load of benefits to being multi-lingual. According to the Dept. of Education, they included strong thinking and problem solving skills, better grades, and the possibility of more job opportunities than those who not not speak multiple languages. College and Career Counselor at the Wicomico Board of Education, Cale Holmes, and Coordinator of Secondary and Stem Initiatives, Dave Horner, joins us in the studio to talk about Wicomico County’s Chinese Language and Culture Series. This free series is for students in grades 7-10 and their parents. Advance registration is required and you can contact Gretchen Boggs at firstname.lastname@example.org or 410-677-4504, to register. We’re also stepping into the DelmarvaLife kitchen with Jing Zhang of Salisbury, Md. to get a taste of the Chinese culture.
We’re announcing our grand prize winner for the 2018 DelmarvaLife Valentine’s Day Giveaway today! It could be you! Be sure to tune in today at 5 pm.
