The number of children actively riding bicycles decreased 20% between 2000 and 2010. Harrison Barnes of Bridgeville wants to change that. He started a program called Gear Up to help get kids on bikes by taking donated bikes and refurbishing them for kids who cannot buy them.
The Wicomico County Health Department is holding an Overdose Awareness Event at Salisbury City Park on Friday starting at 5:30 p.m. Opioid Coordinator, Crissy Bowie-Simpson; and Program Coordinator Jessica Taylor talk about what will happen at the event and why it is so important to the community. The official dedication and ribbon cutting for the Harriet Tubman mural in Cambridge is September 7th. The mural dedication is part of a day of events entitled “A Day of Resilience: Return, Reconcile, Reunite, Rejoice. Commemorating the 400th Anniversary of Slavery in America,” being organized by Alpha Genesis and Dorchester Center for the Arts. Alpha Genesis CDC President, Adrian Holmes; and the Executive Director of the Dorchester Center for the Arts, Barb Seese join us to talk about the event, including special guests from Africa.

Dover will be filled with some of your favorite characters from comic books, television, movies, and books at this year’s Dover Comic Con, Saturday, August 17th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in downtown Dover. The Dover Comic Con is a free indoor/outdoor pop-culture festival featuring an outdoor market with over 100 exhibitors, including amazing artists and vendors, plus the event will host fan groups, activities, panels, entertainment, food trucks and more! Presented by the Delaware State News in partnership with the Dover Public Library.
