Do you remember the first time you bit into all 10 of those delicious layers in a Smith Island Cake? In fact, the cake is so good, it was named the Maryland State Dessert in 2008. For as long as we have all loved a good Smith Island Cake, believe it or not, there was a time when a published recipe was non-existent. Intriguing to writer, Tracy Sahler, who met with a local Smith Island woman, who for decades, served up her 10-layer cake to visitors at the Smith Island Motel. Today, we talk with Tracy and her husband, Erick, to find out how they learned how to make this top-secret recipe.
We’ve been following the story of Stallone, the neglected pup brought into the Wicomico Humane Society. He has been making big improvements over these past couple of weeks, but he’s not quite ready to be brought into his fur-ever home. Al Hondo Handy has spent a lifetime making sure sports programs were available to kids who needed them. He retired from the Ocean City Parks and Recreation Department, just last year. But, this life-long Eastern Shore Resident isn’t slow down – not by a long shot. We check in with him to find out how he’s still supporting the kids.

Simple, delicious and tasty. Basic Macaroni Salad has no frills, nothing fancy, just good, ole classic macaroni salad. Even though it may be “basic”, it certainly doesn’t lack in taste! Check out the recipe below:
What You’ll Need
- 1 pound elbow macaroni
- 5 hard boiled eggs, chopped
- 1 cup chopped celery
- 1/2 cup finely chopped red onion
- 2 cups mayonnaise
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 teaspoon black pepper
What to Do
- In a large pot of boiling water, cook macaroni over high heat 7 to 9 minutes, or just until tender. Drain, rinse, and let cool.
- Place macaroni in a large bowl, add remaining ingredients, and mix well. Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour before serving.
