What’s Happening Today – August 12, 2016
Today on DelmarvaLife:
The Salisbury Fencing Club held an open house last night, but they are always looking for new members. The coach is Angela Herbert-Hodges who was a member of the British Olympic Team. You can learn foil, epee, or sabre, and it’s for all ages.
For the past month, the Assateague and Chincoteague ponies have really been in the spotlight. They are such a treasure here on Delmarva. The world famous Chincoteague Island Pony Swim took place on July 27. Thousands of people came out to watch the 91st year of this event. However, a couple days later, we learned that a 16-year-old Assateague stallion was hit by a car and had to be euthanized. Much of the Peninsula mourned the pony, but then we got word of a new addition to Assateague. The birth of a new foal on August 1.
Liz Davis, the chief of interpretation and education at Assateague Island National Seashore, as well as Anna Smolens with Purple Horse Designs and Photography, join us to tell us more about everything going on with the ponies recently.
Before rescuing a dog, you need to know the responsibilities that come with it. There’s a lot that goes into being a responsible dog owner. The American Kennel Club has set aside a day for responsible dog owners. Karen Cottingham, an AKC canine good citizen instructor, and three-month-old Bernadette, join us on the couches to talk about a responsible pet owner.
The 21st Annual Eastern Shore AFRAM Festival is Saturday, August 13 from 10 am – 10 pm at the Seaford Sports Complex. Festival Executive Director, Pat Jones, and AFRAM Committee President, Desiree Moore, join us to tell us more about this event.
Rob Rector, one of the founders of the Revival House, and musician Caroline Hermance, join us to tell us about “This Month’s Sermon” – as they call it. On Thursday, August 18, kids will reign the Revival House for a screening of the family classic, “The Princess Bride,” at the Milton Theater. There’s music, food, art, and face painting. Doors open at 6 pm.
Brother-sister duo, Alex and Shiloh, have been on our show many times. Alex Wersen is solo today in Historic Studio D. He performs two originals today – “Jealousy” and “Her.”
Hope you enjoy the show!
