What’s Happening Today – April 6, 2018
Today on DelmarvaLife:
A world without breast cancer. Unfortunately, not a reality, but each year we become closer to that goal through the work of not only scientists and doctors, but research funded by the community. One community event to benefit the search for an end to breast cancer is the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Ocean City. Malisa Eslin, committee chair for The Komen Maryland Ocean City race and Susan Rall, a breast cancer survivor and race participant join us today to talk about the Susan G. Komen Organization, why it is important to spead awareness, and how the community can show its support. The race will take place Saturday, April 14th in Ocean City. For more information, click here!
Voices are strong. We learned that about a month ago when we had Martina Maya Callen on the show to talk to us about her struggles of overcoming an eating disorder and her message of spreading self love. Today we join Eileen Harrington, resident director at Salisbury University, to talk about Take Back the Night, a vigil being held with the mission of ending sexual and domestic violence. We learn about why the event is so important and what she hopes to come from it. The event will be held Wednesday, April 11th at 6:30 pm in Salisbury University’s Holloway Hall.
High school is often some of the best years of your life. For the students of Indian River High School, they are made even greater by the Indian River High School Alumni Association. As the alumni association prepares for their sixth annual Beef and Brew fundraiser event, they hope to see their effecton the school expanded. DelmarvaLife’s Sydney Whitfield takes a trip to the school to learn more about their impact and how they are prepping for the Beef and Brew event. The event will take place Saturday, April 14th at 6 pm. For more information, click here!
WBOC and Sherwood Automotive are teaming up again to bring you another Rising Tide Event. On Wednesday, April 11th, we will be collecting supplies for the shelter’s animals here on Delmarva. For drop off locations or a shopping list, click here.
