What’s Happening Today – April 25, 2019
Today on DelmarvaLife –
It’s the debut of DelmarvaLife’s Small Town Series. We dedicate the entire hour to introducing you to some of the core businesses that make Berlin stand out.
Our first stop is one of Berlin’s newest businesses, The Greyhound: An Indie Bookstore. Susan Ayers Wimbrow and her husband opened the shop in a building that has been in her family since it was built in 1895. The Greyhound carries many self-published authors, especially local ones. Susan is also the author of a book called, “Death is My Life.”
It wasn’t that long ago that Main Street in Berlin didn’t have but a couple of stores. Things really started to pick up for the small town in the late nineties, after the movie, “The Runaway Bride” was filmed there. Many shops have come and gone since then, but one has been there for 25 years, Victorian Charm. Like fine wine, Victorian Charm has gotten better with age.
Take a stroll down Main Street in Historic Downtown Berlin, and it’s easy to see why so many people make their way here to browse through the shops but, long before the streets were lined with trendy cafes and boutiques, The Treasure Chest was the place to go for a wide selection of fine and unique jewelry, and it still is.
There’s plenty of fun in the town of Berlin, especially at World of Toys. The independent, family owned store full of toys that will jump start a child’s imagination.
We already know Berlin is the “Coolest Small Town in America,” but it has another distinction, the antique capital of the Eastern Shore. With three giant stores filled with thousands of treasure from hundred of visitors, it’s no wonder. We stopped by one of those stores, Uptown Antiques, to find out how easy it is to get lost in yesteryear.
Soaps, bath bombs, and beard balms. You can find it all at Uncle Jon’s Soap Shop in Berlin. 102.5 WBOC’s Corey Phoebus stopped by to get his hands dirty, or would it be clean?
Berlin is your destination for Jazz and Blues, Wine and Brews next weekend. Enjoy two stages of live music, great food, shopping, and art in America’s Coolest Small Town. The Berlin Jazz and Blues, Wines and Brews Festival is Saturday, May 4th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Downtown Berlin. Click here for more information and tickets for the wine tasting.
