What’s Happening- June 21, 2017
We are so blessed to be surrounded by beautiful nature and wildlife here on Delmarva; but in order to continue enjoying all the nature around us, it is our job to understand how to take care of it. Dave Wilson, with Audubon Maryland-DC‘s “Important Bird Area Program” stops by the studio today to tell us a bit more about the colonial nesting birds native to this area and how we play an important part in protecting their nesting season.
Another local attraction that gets a lot of attention this time of year is the Hebron Fireman’s Carnival, which is officially up and running! The Festival has been a summer tradition for families on Delmarva for more than ninety years. To tell us more about it, Hebron Volunteer Fire Department member, Pete Peterman, stops by the studio to share more about the Carnival’s history, as well as the food, attractions and events you can expect to see this year! Carnival tickets are a part of our “Summer Guide Giveaway”, be sure to tune into DelmarvaLife at 5 to find out if you’re our next winner!
Now that it’s summer, it’s the perfect time to clean off the deck, and pull out the summer furniture; but if your summer furniture is in need of an update or face-lift, look no further than the selection found at Tyndall’s Casual Furniture. More than thirty-years ago, the Tyndall family started designing and selling patio furniture, and it still remains a hit. Lisa chats with Brittany Calhoun, whose mother took over the business when the Tyndall’s retired. She tells Lisa how the store has continued to grow, develop and remain a household name across Delmarva throughout all these years.
Finally it was time to heat up the kitchen for a menu filled with flavor. Chef Patrick Fanning from High Spot, Stoked and Rock Lobstah in downtown Cambridge cooks up some amazing food including: smoked crab tacos, Eastern Shore summer squash slaw, charred Old Bay corn and tomato and jalapeno cream fraiche. Then Katie Clendaniel, Executive Director of Cambridge Main Street, steps into the kitchen to tell Corey and Lisa about the upcoming “Taste of Cambridge” that will be held Saturday, July 8 on Main Street in downtown Cambridge.
