Many people love how a cold, winter day looks. But this weather dries out our skin. Crystal Miles, Spa Manager at About Faces, says while the weather does have a direct effect on our skin, our drinking habits can be to blame too.
“I think we tend to drink more coffee and hot drinks, hot tea, things like that which tend to be dehydrating to the skin,” Crystal says.
She says hydrating the inside is only part of the solution. You need to replace essential lipids, or your natural oil. Moisturizing is key this time of year. Crystal says exfoliating your skin before you apply moisturizer is key to replacing those lipids.
“It’s going to take off that top dead layer of skin so that way you can moisturize the underneath layers and keep that healthier,” she says.
Exfoliation and moisture renewal can be part of many facials offered at About Faces. You can also get a hydrolifting facial which gives your skin a younger look. About Faces also offers Parrafin treatments.
“The Parrafin treatment is fabulous for the hands. Again you are usually going to do an exfoliant first, and then that gets off all the dry skin that is not necessary and then you put the parrafin over top, and that really seals in the moisture.” Crystal says. “The moisture from the paraffin wax really seals in your skin from the heat and opens up those pores and gets it deep down in, which is really nice.”
