Patient Choices – Chesapeake Eye Center – Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015
Dr. Catherine Smoot, from Chesapeake Eye Center, tells us that with all of our new technology, patients have more options than ever before. “Doctor-patient relationships should be more like a partnership,” says Dr. Smoot.
We are transitioning from patients asking their doctors to tell them what to do, to patients being able to ask their doctors for options and the opinions of their health care professionals.
Another big factor in deciding what options are right for you is what your health insurance will cover and what it won’t. If you’re not sure if your insurance will cover what you need, the staff at Chesapeake Eye Center, and most medical facilities, can help you out.
If surgery is ever the option a patient chooses, Dr. Smoot says the first step for the patient should be who is preforming the procedure.
Dr. Smoot also explains that their reward, as doctors, is helping patients decide what is best for them personally to meet their needs. It is not to suggest the most expensive or difficult procedure out there when a patient might only need a pair of glasses.
