Meatballs and Music Served During 2nd Annual Meatball-Con in Milford, Del.
“She said ‘Do you trust me?'” Williams recalls. “I said yeah…and we ran with it!”
This years Meatball-Con will take place on Saturday, May 21 from 12-4 p.m. at Mispillion River Brewing. Williams says the event is a chance to bring local restaurants out, get them exposure, taste a few beers and collect food for the Food Bank of Delaware.
Williams says last years event saw about 100-125 people but this year, there is a major change.
“We changed the way we do the events here. We have eliminated ticket sales for all our events. We felt like we were excluding people that couldn’t afford it and we didn’t think that was what our craft industry was about. We want to give back—there will be no more charging for events.”
The meatballs at the event are free but don’t forget to bring money for beer!
Throughout the day, guests will walk around to the different local food vendors, trying meatballs and pairing them with beers. The event is a competition to see which restaurant has the best meatballs. Last years categories included the ‘Dessert Ball,’ ‘Balls to the Wall’ and the ‘Savory Ball.’
The overall winner of last year’s competition was Paul Gallo, who worked for Abbott’s Grill at the time.
Williams says this event is a great representation of the crew at Mispillion because they’re ‘all about having fun and not taking things too seriously.’
“The reaction last year was fantastic! Everybody had a good time, there were ten restaurants and everybody was full.”
