Homeless & Delmarva Clothing Our Kids – Monday, August 24, 2015
Lava Mae is a non-profit and runs on donations. They are buses which have two shower rooms for homeless people to bathe. Homeless people are given razors, toothbrushes, soap, socks, etc. when they walk onto the bus to get their shower. Volunteer, Lisa Olswing, says, “One of the first people that took a shower just came out and his whole persona changed. It was as if 100 pounds came off his back and off his shoulders.”
In addition to helping the homeless, there are also other opportunities to support others in need. One effort is called “Clothing Our Kids.” The goal is to improve the lives of at risk kids here on Delmarva. It provides clothing to kids from pre-k thru elementary school. Many cannot afford clothes and help boosting a kids self esteem is by wearing clean clothes.
