A Day in the Life of a Barista – Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015
Troy Cash, with Eastern Shore Coffee and Water, tells us how drink specialty shops can be a little expensive, so they wanted to create a way where you can make the treat yourself. “Be Your Own Barista saves some time in the morning and saves some money too, instead of paying you know four dollars for a mocha or a latte, you can make your own here,” Troy says.
They have five simple recipes that customers can use as a guide to make their blends. The recipes are posted in the store, on their Facebook and on the Goose Creek app.
Sean follows Troy’s instructions as they follow the recipe on the wall and make a chocolate covered pumpkin barista by adding three different ingredients together. Sean makes the nutella hot chocolate barista on his own and says, “It’s a nice little twist to your typical hot chocolate.”
Troy says that it’s a different way for people to look at convenience store coffee. “We’re trying to get people away from that stereotype and show that you can make a great cup of coffee a Goose Creek. You don’t need to go out of your way to a specialty coffee shop and pay four times as much,” he says.
You too can get involved in the fun! Throughout September, Goose Creek is running a selfie contest. All you need to do is take a selfie with your Goose Creek cup, upload it to Facebook tagging the store you’re in, and the Goose Creek Facebook page, and use the hashtag #BYOBarista. The picture with the most likes at the end of the month wins a $25 Goose Creek gift card and a Goose Creek travel mug.
In October, you can put your barista skills on Facebook with the possibility of winning some awesome prizes. All you have to do is upload your recipe to the Goose Creek Facebook page and the recipe that gets the most likes by the end of the month is the winner.
