Dangers of Powdered Substances – Tuesday, March 24, 2015
Palcohol is a powder that can be mixed with water to create an alcoholic drink. Will Dawson, Police Cheif, said it could lead to alcohol overdoses. Some states are already making moves to band the powdered alcohol.
Dr. Anjan Nan, UMES School of Pharmacy, tell us that 1-2 teaspoons of powdered caffeine could be lethal. Dr. Nan says there is really not a safe way to use these powdered substances because it is hard to measure the small dose amount you are recommended to take. Part of the nose has direct contact with the brain, so if you snort powdered substances, it could be absorbed in the blood stream and part of it could go to the brain, and could lead to harmful side effects.
The FDA cannot ban this product because the products are pure caffeine and pure alcohol so they have not been chemically altered. Therefore, the FDA cannot step in.
