Rescuing Pets & Saving Their Lives – Nature’s Variety Instinct – Friday, March 13, 2015
Dr. Debbye Turner Bell, Former Miss America and Veterinarian, tells Jimmy how the Long Live Pets campaign is raising awareness for the no-kill movement. Debbye says 8-10 million pets are in shelters and need homes and unfortunately half will be euthanized because there is no place for them to go.
Debbye says there is a joy that comes along with rescuing pets. Nature’s Variety Instinct is putting together a film that will debut on April 17 on Nat Geo Wild that will be featuring rescue pets from around the country.
Gregory Castle, CEO and Co-Founder of Best Friends Animal Society, says we can help our local shelters by going to bestfriends.org which has a list of the organizations they partner with around the country. Gregory says to adopt if you want a new pet for your family opposed to a pet store. You can also volunteer and help pets socialize for adoption.
Prior to adopting, you want to find which pet is the best for you and your lifestyle:
- Evaluate family situation and lifestyle
- Activity level – high or low
- Young children and elderly
- Availability at home
Debbye says to make sure people have the time and treasure that is required to keep the pet happy and healthy.
