Foster Pup Makes Miraculous Recovery: From Rags To Riches
Grass Roots Rescue is an all-volunteer, nonprofit group that saves dogs and cats at risk in shelters and in the community, located in Kent County, Delaware.
Meet Ellie. Ellie is believed to of been a breeding dog at a puppy mill who was discarded. Grass Root Rescue rescued her from The Humane Society of Charles County.

Ellie two weeks ago.
“You can tell she’s been bread a lot, she has a lot of health issues,” Chrissy Ehrhart, Ellie’s foster mom, said.
Chrissy found out about Ellie through social media, after Grass Roots Rescue shared Ellie’s photo on Facebook.
“I saw her face on that first picture, I thought oh my goodness this dog is going to pass on but she has to feel loved before she does,” Chrissy said. “I just sat there all day the first night and thought there was no way she’s going to make it.”
After taking Ellie to the vet, she was informed the pup had heart worm and pneumonia. To Chrissy, who thought they’d say the dog needed to be put down, this was a relief.
“I had a friend of mine come in who knew what she was doing, we sat there for hours feeding her little bit by little bit just to take the edge off,” Chrissy said. “The tricky part was feeding her the right way so it wouldn’t kill her.”
After just two weeks, Ellie’s health had taken a turn for the better.
“The vet was like oh my gosh, this is miraculous!,” Chrissy said.
Chrissy says with the proper feeding, love and commitment, you can turn a dogs life around.
Grass Roots Rescue gives people the chance to foster animals without the burden of paying for them.
“I havn’t paid for anything,” Chrissy said. “Balls, food, vet bills are paid for.”
After fostering Ellie and giving her life again, Chrissy has fallen in love with this dog but—she is still a foster parent.
Chrissy says ‘if there is a home, a good home, where all her needs can be met…’ she would love to place Ellie in the right hands.
