15 Downtown Rehoboth Beach Restaurants Particpate in Gumbo Crawl

Rehoboth Beach Main Street took over the event last year.
“There were two restaurants that held it between themselves, before we took over,” Rehoboth Beach Main Street’s Executive Director, Krys Johnson, said. “It became so busy, they asked if main street could help with it.”
The Pond Bar & Grill and the Purple Parrot Grill Beach Haus & Biergarten were the two original Rehoboth Beach restaurants in the gumbo crawl. Last year, the Purple Parrot took home the winning title.
Johnson says last year’s turn out was incredible.
“The weather was like eight degrees last year and we sold about 850 something tickets!” Johnson said. “This year we are hoping hundreds turn out for the event again.”
The March 5 event will be held in the downtown Rehoboth Beach area from 2-5 p.m. Ballots for the event can be purchased for $10 starting Friday, Feb. 12 and through out the day of the event.
Other restaurants participating in the event include Hobos Restaurant & Bar, Lula Brazil, Mariachi, Papa Grande’s Coastal Taqueria, The Pig + Fish, Spice & Tea Exchange, Zogg’s Raw Bar & Grill, Rigby’s Bar & Grill and Seafood Shack.
“You go into each participating restaurant and get your gumbo taste. You have to visit at least five restaurants to vote on your top three winners. Fill out the top three on the ballot and we tally it up.”
The top three People’s Choice winners will receive: (1st Place) Trophy and $300, (2nd Place) Trophy and $200, (3rd Place) Trophy and $100.
Since the participants will be walking to each restaurant, there’s a map on the ballot. According to Johnson, the announcement of the three winners will be made Sunday, March 6 at 2 p.m. at the Pond Bar & Grill.
Johnson says just like all of Rehoboth Main Street’s events, the Rehoboth Beach Main Street’s Gumbo Crawl is growing.
