The Great Cypress Swamp has a lot of history on Delmarva, much more than you might think.
“The Swamp” makes up about 10,000 acres of land in Sussex County, Del. and Worcester County, Md. Although that may seem like a lot, at one point there was an estimated 60,000 acres.
Delaware Wild Lands Executive Director, Katherine Hacket, has worked with her team on various management efforts in the swamp including extensive hydrological restoration. This restoration is used to restore native plant and wetlands communities like Atlantic white cedar and Baldcypress.
