SoDel Concepts Partners with Meals on Wheels Lewes-Rehoboth to Feed Hundreds
It’s a partnership that has been around since October 2014.
In 2014, Meals on Wheels Lewes-Rehoboth was actively seeking a contracted caterer. After several months and no luck, the organization crossed paths with the late Delaware restaurateur Matt Haley of SoDel Concepts.
“Matt Haley just said, ‘We’ll make it happen, we’ll make it happen,’ and that was the kind of attitude he had,” Katie Leister, volunteer coordinator for Meals on Wheels Lewes-Rehoboth, said. “He converted part of the Fish On kitchen to be able to prepare hundreds of meals. He was incredibly accommodating and said ‘I want to do this for the community.'”
A handful of SoDel Concepts employees start their day at Fish On in Lewes, Del., Monday through Friday at 6 a.m., preparing food for 180-200 hungry people, who typically get two meals a day. According to Leister, each client receives a lunch and a hot meal, with a snack such as a fruit cup or pudding.
In addition to the SoDel Concepts employees, Leister says she has about 100 active Meals on Wheels volunteers who typically arrive around 9:30 a.m. each day to travel their route. As of late, an additional route has been added to total 14 different delivery routes.
Leister says SoDel Concepts chef, Jen Myers, and SoDel Concepts Meals on Wheels coordinator, Tony Alderucci, are instrumental in the day to day duties.
