Dentist Visits – Friday, March 27, 2015
Delmarva Life’s Sean Streitcher visited Dr. Harmon, from Delmarva Dental Services. Harmon said that fear is the number one reason why people don’t enjoy going to the dentist. Harmon said he does everything he can to put his patient’s nerves at ease.
At Delmarva Dental Services, you are given a questionaire form, where you answer a series of questions to help the dentists understand what makes you afraid of the dentist. It is also there to rate patient’s anxiety levels. The dentist then takes this sheet and finds ways to help ease that anxiety during your visit some of these include laughing gas or valium. If a patient has anxiety about the sound of the dentistry tools, Dr. Harmon will allow you to put your headphones on to drown out the sound of the tools.
For children who are afraid of the dentist, Dr. Harmon suggest that they help the child build a good relationship with the dentist. This will help ensure that they will continue to go as an adult.
With all the alternatives out there, Dr. Harmon said the best way to ease any of his patient’s fears are to show them that he cares.
