Several Events Highlight West Wicomico Heritage Day
The event, presented by Wicomico Recreation, Parks & Tourism, is set for Saturday, Sept. 23. In addition to the West Wicomico Heritage Bike Tour, there will be a Historians Scavenger Hunt, games and guided tours at Pemberton Historical Park off of Pemberton Drive in Salisbury.
The 22nd annual bike tour, which begins and ends at the park, lasts from 7 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. with a show and go from 7-8:30 a.m. The event includes a 32-, 50- and 62-mile route through western Wicomico County which participants may choose from. Registration is available online and at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center Box Office, weekdays from 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
Riders must wear a helmet, and will each receive a map and cue sheet. Rest areas will be available, as well as SAG, Support and Gear service.
Registration is open to the public, with a $40 fee for adults, and $25 fee for children ages 8-18. Children ages 7 and under may ride for free.
The public can also participate in the scavenger hunt, colonial games and crafts, and Pemberton Hall tours during the event.
Teams will explore historical sites in Pemberton Historical Park during the scavenger hunt, completing tasks and challenges. The cost to join is $5 per group, with no more than five people allowed. On-site registration for the scavenger hunt begins at 10 a.m. with the event beginning at 11 a.m.
Pemberton Hall tours and colonial games will last from 1o a.m.- 2 p.m along with free guided tours of Pemberton’s history trail until 1 p.m.
The event is hosted in partnership with the Whitehaven Heritage Association and the Pemberton Hall Foundation. Proceeds go directly toward historical preservation of Pemberton Historical Park and the Whitehaven Schoolhouse as well as numerous environmental education programs offered to Wicomico County children and families.
