We’re playing with robots in Historic Studio D!
Robotics Instructor at the Wicomico County Public Library, Mark DeMorra, tells us all about the robotics club and we get to play with some robots today.
The robotics club at the Wicomico Public Library has been going on for 4 years now.
“It’s a club for people, for kids mostly, that are interested in robotics,” Mark says. They come in and they learn the very basics of what a robot is, how they work, how they can make their own, how they can program it totally from scratch.”
Mark shows us Lego robotics which are made completely out of Lego. The kits in the stores tend to be a little pricey, so the library offers this as a program for kids who are interested and who may not have access to the robotics kits such as underprivileged kids.
Robotics and STEM programs are so important. Mark says there is a huge lack of knowledge and expertise in the field of building robotics these days, and he says it’s important to start them young to teach them these skills.
Maryland STEM Festival is now until Nov. 13 all over the state of Maryland. Check out a list of events here.
