Riverwalk Farmers Market in Milford, Delaware: 20 Years and Counting
The Riverwalk Farmers Market started out with a few farmers, selling produce out of their truck beds.
Now, in 2016, the Riverwalk Farmers Market in Milford, Del. boasts some of the best produce in the area.
Every Saturday, from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m., vendors set up shop on South Walnut Street & Mispillion Riverwalk for the Riverwalk Farmers Market. Vendors include Dolce Bakery & Coffee Shop, Mule Run Farm Meats, Totem Farms and more.
Melissa Pingue, farmers market committee chairman, says Riverwalk Farmers Market celebrated 20 years last year and each year, it continues to flourish.
“It started out with local farmers getting together and selling out of their trucks and it just grew from there,” Pingue said. “For the past four years we have had an actual committee in charge of it, letting it grow and now we are at full capacity.”
Pingue says the majority of the farmers market customers are local to Milford and the surrounding areas. The first priority for the farmers market is getting the public fresh goods, but it is also a great way for neighbors to get together.
“We call it a social event, residents can meet their neighbors, meet their local farmers. We also get a lot of people just visiting too.”
Since Milford is an art town, the Riverwalk Farmers Market also offers a plethora of craft vendors to complement the offerings of the farmers. Pingue says the idea is to bring in a large variety of handmade products as well as hand farmed goods.
“It’s extremely important that we are getting local fresh produce out to everyone and getting it available… it’s hard to find the same quality at grocery stores.”
