Rehoboth Beach Restaurant Holding Smyrna Prison Victims’ Fund Benefit
From 3-9 p.m. Thursday, March 30, Claws Seafood House, located at 167 Rehoboth Ave. will hold an oyster shucking competition followed by a raw oyster eating competition, in addition to happy hour specials. According to the Matt Wilson, general manager of the restaurant, 100 percent of the proceeds raised from the evening will be donated to a fund set up to support all those affected by the last month’s incident at the prison.
“We like to be a big part of the community and this was obviously a very tragic event and it’s our way of trying to help a community heal,” Wilson said.
The Feb. 1-2 uprising at the all-male, 2,500-inmate maximum-security JTVCC in Smyrna claimed the life of Lt. Steven Floyd, a 16-year veteran of the prison. He was the first Delaware corrections officer to be killed in the line of duty.
Thursday’s oyster eating competition is open to the public and there is a $5 entry fee. For more information about the event event, call 302-227-2529 or click here.
