Rehoboth Beach Film Society Opens New Theater in Lewes
The Rehoboth Beach Film Society has found a new location with ample parking, high ceilings, and more at the Dartmouth Plaza in Lewes, Del.
According to Susan Hartman, director of marketing for the RBFS, the theater will open its doors on Thursday night, March 17.
“We excited that its opening” Hartman said. “We’re opening tonight with the Jewish Film Festival. Tonight’s screening is sold out so we’re adding a second screening that’s going to go tomorrow morning. And we’ve got a lot of events that are coming up next week.”
According to the RBFS, the new venue will allow expanded offerings of year-round programming, as well as a secure venue for the Rehoboth Beach Independent Film Festival, a new event starting this year.
The venue will consist of a professionally-designed 108-seat main theater with comfortable, tiered seating, as well as a multi-purpose/screening room for smaller audiences and events.
RBFS officials said the Cinema Art Theater will advance the organization’s mission of promoting cinematic arts and providing education and cultural enrichment for the community.
Through its fundraiser efforts, the RBFS has raised $584,644 of the $700,000 project from all of its board members and employees, 209 RBFS members, 38 community members, and several foundations and businesses.
