We’ve got a talented group of kids in our studio audience today from Rehoboth Elementary School.
Walt Hetfield and Ken Schleifer are music teachers at Rehoboth Elementary, and this group of kids is part of an after-school jazz band program. When they’re not teaching, Hetfield and Schleifer are a part of “OH BOY!”, a Buddy Holly tribute band, and they have performed on DelmarvaLife before.
The RED program, which stands for “Rehoboth Empowers Dreams,” is a career-based program offered to third, fourth and fifth graders at the school.
“The idea is to expose the children to vocational opportunities that they can pursue when they go into college,” Schleifer explained.
These kids are apart of just one of the clubs RED offers. There are also clubs for exercise and nutrition, agriculture development, cooking, photography and more.
The RED program is funded from a grant from the Division of Academic Achievement from the U.S. Department of Education, that allows students to have access to enrichment activities after school.
