Rehoboth Beach and Ocean City Boardwalks in the Running for USA Today’s Best
The Rehoboth Beach, Del. and Ocean City, Md. Boardwalks are in the running for USA Todays’s Best Boardwalk. Among the nominees are destinations from around the United States including Atlantic City Beach and Boardwalk, Carolina Beach Boardwalk, Coney Island Boardwalk and Hampton Beach Boardwalk.
Boardwalks from across the United States boast sea air, summer sun and stroll-able walkways, but David Shahean, manager at Dolle’s Candyland in Rehoboth Beach, says the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk has what it takes to be number one.
“The boardwalk has been our home since 1927,” Shahean said. “Everybody here has been our neighbor, we love the boardwalk and the people who come here, people come here from all over the world.”
Dolle’s Candyland offers homemade salt water taffy, caramel corn, delicious fudge, and more. While you’re on the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk picking up some salt water taffy, don’t forget to stop by Thrasher’s French Fries, Funland and the Beach Arcade.
Although Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk is stiff competition, you can’t forget about the Ocean City Boardwalk. Michael Schwartz, owner of The Wrapper, says the boardwalk is critical to his business.
“The foot traffic is my business! Prime time is about 8 p.m. until midnight, families are out and every one is busy.” Schwartz says. “I think it is one of the best boardwalks I’ve ever seen. It has a good variety of businesses, all sorts of things to eat and to do. It is a popular destination and it should be recognized.”
Whether you like to play arcade games, ride carnival rides, enjoy street performers or the sweet shops, the three mile Ocean City Boardwalk has become a destination.
