You may remember when Ryan Cunningham, Executive Chef with Abbott’s Grill on Broad Creek in Laurel, Del., showed Sean and Lisa how to make an Apple Scrapple English Muffin. Not only did Ryan share his original tasty recipe, but he also told us how to vote for Delmarva in the nationwide Hometown Breakfast Battle with Thomas English Muffins. The chef is in the running for the grand prize of $25,000 and more.
Ryan says this win is not about his personal gain, but rather Delmarva as a whole. “I want to show the nation we have some good roots here,” he says, “and a strong community.” He goes onto say, the support he has received so far has been overwhelming. “It’s exciting and awesome. The community support for this has been… just a breath of fresh air.”
Ryan was one of 135 chefs from all over the country at the beginning of this competition, and he has now become part of the elite Top 8. Ryan says, remember to vote every single day! The votes through the Breakfast Battle “cancel out”, meaning when Ryan advanced to the this top position, his number of votes returned to zero. So if you’d like to see Ryan land the coveted number one spot, vote over and over again.
Also, YOU could win! If you vote, you are in the running for $10,000 or free Thomas products.
The Top 2 in the Hometown Breakfast Battle will be announced Oct. 19, so vote, vote, vote!
Chef and Owner of Abbott’s Grill, Kevin Reading, has nothing but good things to say about Ryan. Kevin says others in the battle against Ryan are in larger markets, so the fact that he was able to generate this kind of momentum in a small market is awesome.
Kevin says it is good for the business as well. “Can’t hurt the business. We are getting thousands and thousands of hits,” Kevin says. “He’s like the face of the place there (Abbott’s Grill). He’s very talented and he’s funny. Everybody loves being around him. He is just kind of infectious.”
The recipe is also online if you would like to try the Apple Scrapple English Muffin at home.
