Raelyn Huffman of Delmar died in a fatal train crash on May 4, 2018.
Huffman’s 2017 Ford Focus passenger vehicle was traveling east on Bacons Road approaching a railroad crossing with the red railroad signal flashing and the audible bell sounding. At that same time, a train was traveling south bound approaching Bacons Road. The engineer of the train was sounding the audible horn as it approached the intersection, police said.
For unknown reasons, Huffman failed to see or hear the active railroad crossing warning safety devices, and the vehicle crossed the tracks in front of the train, police said. As a result, the front of the train struck the left side of the vehicle.
Max Blair captured night one of the RUSH Late Model “Battle of the Bay” mini-series event at Delaware International Speedway, in memory of Raelyn Huffman. Blair proudly displayed a door that was commemorated in Huffman’s honor.
“I did not know Raelyn very well, but I knew her Dad (Ray) really well. They are a great family and I am glad we could pull this off.”
The victory pocketed the Centerville, Pennsylvania native $4,000 and a strong start to contend for the $3,000 “Battle of the Bay” point fund over the next three events (Georgetown, Potomac, and Winchester).
