Pinwheels for Protection Campaign, Raising Funds for the Life Crisis Center to Assist Victims of Child Abuse
In 2008, “Prevent Child Abuse America” introduced pinwheels as the new national symbol for child abuse prevention.
The pinwheel connotes whimsy and childlike notions. You may have noticed blue pinwheels popping up across Delmarva.
Child abuse isn’t something that is talked about often, but it’s happening everyday, right here on Delmarva. Abigail says in Wicomico County alone, there were over 500 cases of child abuse reported in 2016. Sadly, many cases of child abuse are unreported.
Abigail says there are sometimes signs of physical and emotional child abuse, but sometimes there are no signs at all.
Physical signs include:
- Unexplained health ailment
- Unexplained desire to not go anywhere, or to a certain place, or to be with certain people
- Changes in mood
- Changes in eating habits
There are a couple of events coming up to raise money for the Life Crisis Center. On Tuesday, April 11, there will be a guest bartending event at the Brick Room in Salisbury from 5 pm-10 pm to raise funds to assist victims of child abuse. Pinwheels for Protection Color Run and 1 Mile Walk is Sunday, April 30, at the Moose Lodge in Salisbury. Registration starts at 9 am and the run/walk begins at 11 am.
