Cambridge Artist Holds Breast Cancer Awareness Painting Events
Miriam Moran, an artist from Cambridge, Md., joins us in the studio to paint and tell us about upcoming events.
Miriam was born in New York, but now she resides in Maryland. She is a self-taught artist who started painting when she was young.
“I started painting when I was a little girl. Me and my brothers would always do something, like basketball. But painting and drawing was my thing,” Miriam says. “I’ve been doing it on my own. I didn’t get taught. I just like doing it. I think it runs in my family because my brothers are very talented too and my dad. I used to see him draw all the time. I would say ‘I want to do that Dad.’ So he would do something and I would just copy it. When I was young I used to like drawing Mickey Mouse or bubble letters and stuff,” Miriam says. “It used to be a lot of fun just to do it and be myself and express myself through art.”
Miriam has been holding and planning events to get people together to paint a picture that can help them express themselves. The events are called “Painting for Purpose.”
“I will do the paintings and bring it to the events. A lot of people are very interested because the painting touches them. It’s a topic that they understand. They get inspired. I do a lot of paintings dedicated to those who need something to express themselves whether it be through cancer or anything else,” Miriam says.
She has two events coming up in October that focus on breast cancer since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Miriam’s mom was recently diagnosed with breast cancer so these events are near and dear to her heart.
“My mother was diagnosed this year so it really inspired me more to do this for her and do this for others that have been affected by it,” Miriam says.
