A global photography movement reaches Delaware.
Help-Portrait is a global movement of photographers, hairstylists and makeup artists using their time, tools and expertise to give back to those in need. Over the weekend, Help-Portrait Wilmington will bring the event to Delaware.
Vera LaMarche of ‘From Vera With Love Photography’ organized Help-Portrait Wilmington.
“I really think it’s coming together and for a while — I didn’t think we would be able to pull it off,” LaMarche disclosed.
The photographer says she’s always looking for ways to give back and this was the perfect opportunity. After participating in Help-Portrait Philadelphia last year, she decided to bring the event to Wilmington.
“People who otherwise wouldn’t be able to have their portraits taken come into the studio, pick the setup they want to sit in and then we print the photos and put them in a frame for them,” LaMarche says.
During last year’s event in Philadelphia, LaMarche says they were lucky enough to have about 60 – 80 participants. For the Wilmington event, LaMarche hopes to have about 50 participants and plans to grow the event in the future.
“People would cry because they would say ‘I’ve never been given a portrait, I’ve never gotten one professionally done before,” LaMcarche says. “The smiles on their faces when they got them, they felt good about themselves, they’d say “I’m giving my mom this for Christmas.”

While planning the event, LaMarche has worked with Delaware Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Child, Inc. who will be sending people to the location for the portraits. In addition to DCADV, Mom’s House, Inc. came on board with the event, confirming at least 17 participants attending.
The event will also serve food and drinks.
