October is breast cancer awareness month. Jeanne Tajvar shares her breast cancer story with us.
She was about to get on an airplane before going on vacation when she got that dreadful call from her doctor.
“One day before we were to get on an airplane and go on vacation, in August 2006, it became official: I had breast cancer. I had to tell my two children, ages four and eleven, that we weren’t going anywhere the next day. Why? I had to explain that the doctors wanted to keep an eye on those lumps under my arm cancer had already spread to the lymph node,” Jeanne says. “We do not cease to be wives, mothers, employees, neighbors, employees, PTA members, and the list goes on.”
Today, Jeanne is a 10-year survivor.
“I’ve walked through the fire and come out on the other side. I am very aware that not everyone does. I am grateful, and I am grateful to Women Supporting Women for their assistance in a time of true need,” Jeanne says.
She started treatment right away and had support by Women Supporting Women throughout her journey.
Emily Rantz with Women Supporting Women tells about how this breast cancer support group has helped many women and their families go through this journey and remind them they are not alone.
