Gardening with Ginny – Poinsettia Pointers
We’re calling in a professional to help with our poinsettias this time of year.
Gardening expert Ginny Rosenkranz, with the University of Maryland Extension Office, is here with a few poinsettia pointers, including how to care for them so they look great all holiday season.
There are actually white and marble colored poinsettias as well – not just the classic red. Ginny says when you’re purchasing a poinsettia, you want to look to make sure the flowers have just started to open that way it lasts all season.
There are myths about poinsettias being poisonous to pets. Ginny says that’s false. She says the plant leaves do have latex in them so if many leaves are consumed your pet may have an upset tummy, but no animal or person has ever died from consuming the leaves, according to Ginny.
