Volunteers Make Big Impact at Firefly
WBOC’s Mike Chesney talked to volunteers at Firefly:
Having 90,000 music lovers at The Woodlands this weekend takes a lot of people to make happen. And many of those people are volunteers.
Red Frog Events, organizers of Firefly Music Festival, call it a small army. It’s about 5,000 people at all different levels of staffing.
And many of those people, including many of the volunteers, are local.
Gayle Coleman-Clevenger was volunteering and helping the Polytech marching band all at the same time.
“I love it,” she said. “You meet a lot of people, make a lot of friends, see a lot of people from different places, bond with your group.”
She tells WBOC even though some locals are annoyed by the hassles Firefly can create around Kent County, there’s a lot of good happening inside the gates, a lot of fundraising for various local groups.
The festival’s director says everyone buys in and understands this is their festival.
