Eastern Shore Classic Dog Shows Nov. 8-12
The Talbot Kennel Club, Salisbury Maryland Kennel Club and Mispillion Kennel Club are partnering to present the Nov. 8-12 event, which includes five all-breed dog shows as well as obedience and rally trials.
“This will be our 83rd and 84th dog show,” said Mary Ann Bruton, chairman of the Salisbury Maryland Kennel Club.
Admission each day is $5 for adults and $1 for students. Children under the age of 5 receive free entry. A five-day combined catalog can be purchased for $12. The show begins at 8 a.m. Friday-Sunday and lasts all day until 4:30 p.m.
Bruton said the shows will receive around 4,500 dogs over the five days of the competition. Specialty shows will take place each day beginning Friday, including both the Black Russian Terrier Club and American Boxer Club on Saturday.
“It’s a great way to see all the different breeds,” Bruton said. People can come and look for their favorite dog at the show, where specialists will be happy to answer questions and discuss qualities of individual dog breeds, according to Bruton.
There will be an art display titled, “Dogs in Art,” in which the show presents a gallery of art created by children from grades K-12.
“Over 250 pieces were submitted from Delaware and Maryland,” Bruton said.
Vendors will be selling products for dogs as well as for people who love dogs, according to Bruton.
Canine health clinics will take place throughout the week. The Talbot County Kennel Club will present a free hour-long seminar titled, “The Birds and the Bees: Canine Edition,” Wednesday, Nov. 8 following the Best in Show competition. The speaker is Dr. Elizabeth D. Callahan, a diplomat of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners as well as the American College of Theriogenologists, which specializes in reproduction.
The Talbot County Kennel Club will also present an eye clinic by Veterinary Specialist Dr. Nancy Bromberg as well as a cardiac clinic on Saturday by Cardiologist Richard Cober from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Salisbury Kennel Club will feature the Canine Good Citizen Test on Friday following Best in Show and is limited to 20 dogs. More information can be found at the club table.
There will be free parking at the event site and an armband raffle held daily for all exhibitors. The Wicomico Youth & Civic Center is located at 500 Glen Ave. in Salisbury.
