Drag Racing: Local Drag Racer Finishes Second in World Finals
Ben Parks of Salisbury, Md. was the Top Eliminator Champion at U.S. 13 Dragway for the 2015 season. Parks traveled to Pittsburgh Raceway Park in New Alexandria, Pa. where he made it to Summit SuperSeries Race of Champions Final round against Russ Denmark. Denmark had a .002 advantage on Parks from the start where Denmark took the win in the Final round of the Race of Champions.
The International Hot Rod Association takes each Race of Champion winner along with the best 6 packages out of all 10 divisions. Parks having one of the best losing packages from all the runner-ups in each of the divisions, IHRA selected him to travel to Memphis International Raceway in Memphis, Tenn. to compete in the 2015 World Finals for Top Eliminator. IHRA also helps out racers with $1,000 in tow money to help with expenses on their way to Tennesse.
The Summit SuperSeries World Championship had the best-of-the-best 16 racers in the Top Eliminator class from across the U.S., Canada, Aruba and New Zealand in a race that was narrowed down to one Summit SuperSeries World Champion. There was $240,000 in cash and prizes awarded in the Summit SuperSeries this year. The winner of this class received a world championship Ironman, a championship ring, and recognition at the annual IHRA Awards Ceremony. The Top Eliminator class also awarded the winner a brand new dragster provided by America Racecars painted by Imagine That Customs.
Parks made his way to Memphis, Tenn. this past weekend to compete. Making it through each of the elimination rounds. Parks made it to the final round where he would match up against Jeff Parrish of Clayton, North Carolina. Despite the great driving Parks did in the early rounds, he would claim the runner-up spot at the 2015 World Finals in Top Eliminator.
